Dyett & Bhatia was retained by the City of Menlo Park to prepare Zoning Ordinance amendment for the commercial and industrial districts to update and condense land use classifications, working closely with a Working Group created by the City Council. This effort involved community and stakeholder meetings on desired regulations for each district. The proposed amendments decreased the number of separate discretionary permits and established new development standards and limitations for many land uses. Also indeed was a program for certifying existing non-conforming uses and allowing for substitutions of existing uses to bring the use of a property closer to the intent and purpose of the zoning district or do not intensity or worsen nonconforming conditions. The draft regulations are on hold, following Council elections and work on visioning for the Downtown.
