Construction of the new multi-billion dollar Honolulu High-Capacity Transit system is expected to commence within the next two months. The rail line will provide faster, more reliable public transportation service in a 20+ mile corridor currently suffering from traffic congestion. Integrating rail planning with neighborhood planning will be essential to realizing the full potential of the multi-billion dollar regional investment.

Dyett & Bhatia was recently selected by the City and County of Honolulu to lead planning and urban design for six station areas that will be constructed as part of the rail system—including Downtown and Chinatown, as well as stations in Iwilei, an area currently industrial in character, and expected to transform dramatically. Dyett & Bhatia will be leading all components of the assignment, supported by a team of local consultants, with detailed work efforts to commence spring 2010.
