Santa Monica is a community with a strong sense of place, distinction, and character. Since completion of the City’s last comprehensive Land Use/Circulation Element update in 1984, Santa Monica has been a leader in the development of new planning approaches that combine a concern for providing housing, transportation and other opportunities for a diverse population, while fostering pedestrian-scaled environments, sustainability, and preservation of the City’s character and heritage.

Dyett & Bhatia was recently selected by the City to prepare a comprehensive update of the Land Use Element as well as the Zoning Ordinance, which was last comprehensively updated in 1988. D&B will also document City-prepared Circulation Element, and prepare a comprehensive Environmental Impact Report on these documents.
This is a major assignment that will frame the City’s land use and urban design vision for the next 25 years, and articulate objectives and policies to guide the City’s future. An extensive public participation program is an integral part of the assignment.
