Dyett & Bhatia is part of a team led by Duncan Associates that has recently been selected by the City of Memphis and Shelby County to undertake a comprehensive revision of their Unified Land Development Code and Zoning Ordinance. D&B will be leading work on Downtown and development standards for special districts (e.g. traditional neighborhoods and planned development). Memphis and Unincorporated Shelby County offer a complex array of planning issues. Memphis is very much a part of the New South and reflects that role in a remarkable level of new development, both in the City and in the surrounding area. It is also an older urban center, with all of the challenges facing such centers around the country. Its geographical reach is such that it includes areas that might be separate suburbs in other communities. Last, but certainly not least, it is shaped in part by the activities of a major state university.
