APA Sacramento Valley Section Award and California Chapter Award – Chico General Plan, 1995

Ahwahnee Award – Chico General Plan, 1995

Chico is a Central Valley jewel – a community of distinctive character, graceful streets, and Bidwell Park, the second largest urban park in the country. Working with a 41-member Task Force, Dyett & Bhatia prepared a new General Plan for the City that allowed agreement to be reached between strong environmental and pro-growth groups, and was adopted unanimously by the City Council. As part of the Plan, policies that encourage compact growth, conservation of agricultural and natural resources, and development of pedestrian-oriented neighborhoods were identified. Neighborhood centers were carefully sited throughout the City to promote walkability, and extensive design policies were included for a new neighborhood development.
