The Baylands is a brownsfield site occupying an area of 660 acres in a prime location adjacent to Highway 101 in Brisbane. A Caltrain station is located within the Planning Area, and numerous other roadway and transit improvements, including a new interchange and MUNI light rail extension, are planned. However, the planning for this site is fraught with controversy around soil and water contamination, preservation of environmental resources, and community cohesion and identity.
Dyett & Bhatia is a member of the team retained by the City of Brisbane to prepare the Environmental Impact Report on the Brisbane Baylands Specific Plan. D&B is charged with preparing community-based alternatives and a preferred community plan, which will be analyzed at the same level of detail in the EIR as the proposal by the project’s developer, and will establish the vision for a modified specific plan. As part of the process, D&B is leading extensive public outreach, including stakeholder and decision-maker meetings, and several interactive workshops, to develop the community-based Preferred Alternative.
